Florida, Key Largo (12.4)

Julie and I spent some time in the morning visiting with Kerry before starting our trip to the Florida Keys.  Today was a travel day without many pictures.

Again, I encountered toll roads that only accept the automated state pass system or cash.  I did not have enough cash on me for one of the tolls.  I started to search out my checkbook when the woman at the booth told me to go ahead.   I made a point to go to another ATM to get more cash for future tolls.  Seems a bit ridiculous that you can’t use credit cards.

Julie grabbed a picture of me at one of the SuperChargers.

We stopped for the night on Key Largo.  I had contact with a recruiter a few days ago and said I would get an updated resume over to him before Monday, so I needed a bit of time for that.  Tomorrow we will travel to Key West where we plan to relax for a few days and enjoy the warmth, sunshine, and some tasty beverages. 🙂

Savannah and family (12.3)

Julie and I decided to see more of Savannah in the daylight before leaving for Florida.  We checked out of the hotel and drove to a parking spot near Forsyth Park.  We ate a bit and then walked to Forsyth Park.

Forsyth Park is one of the most beautiful parks I have visited!  We walked through the original park and then into the annex.  Vendors had setup tents selling homemade foods and crafts.  We saw the flavored pecan vendor and bought additional flavors.

Julie and I picked a spot in the grass to sit and relax for a while.  We sat in the sun, people-watching and enjoying the weather.  I didn’t get any pictures, but there were two large grass fields next to all of the trees and walkways.  Quite a nice place.

When we left Savannah, Julie and I drove to our cousin Kerry’s home just South of Jacksonville, Florida.

After seeing her beautiful home, Kerry was anxious to see the Tesla.  We went out and Kerry took a test drive.  Pretty sure there will be a Tesla in her future. 🙂

Kerry and her boyfriend, Ryan, cooked dinner for us.  Ribs, fettuccine alfredo, salad, and corn. 🙂  We shared the wine from the Biltmore and spent the evening catching up.

Charleston and Savannah (12.2)

Julie and I left the hotel a bit before check out so we could spend some time exploring Charleston before leaving for Savannah.  We parked downtime and set out to walk around the shops and buildings.  We passed a historical house near where we parked

We had some lunch, picked up some dessert for the drive, and returned to the car to drive to Savannah.

We stopped at the SuperCharger in Savannah before checking into our hotel.  The SuperCharger is located at the Savannah airport and requires paying for parking to use.  This is the only place I’ve found where you have to pay to access the SuperCharger.  While charging, we walked the airport grounds and noticed a fountain.

We stayed at the riverfront Hyatt hotel in Savannah.  We were on the 7th floor and I enjoyed the view from the glass elevator in the lobby.

Julie and I went out to walk the riverfront and get some food for a bit.  Unfortunately, most of my pictures are blurry from the walk.

We bought some flavored pecans but didn’t pick any restaurant along the riverfront for dinner.  Instead, we ate dinner and had drinks at the Moon River Brewing Company across from the hotel.  I noticed on the menu that they offer bottles of mead for sale!  I’ve wanted to try mead for about ten years and haven’t had the opportunity.  Julie bought a bottle of mead for me.  I did not open it that night, but am looking forward to trying it in the future 🙂

We returned to the hotel to relax a bit before going back out for the Zombie Tour, ghost tour.  We met with the guide and group at 10pm in one of the town squares.  The guide walked us around the historic downtown area for two hours telling us some history of the town and various houses that are believed to be haunted.

We returned to the hotel about 12:30am and called it a night.

South Carolina Drive, Julie (12.1)

Jason and Abby left for work early in the morning and I left to start my drive to Charleston, South Carolina.  Entering South Carolina was an accomplishment.  At that point, I had been to all of the continental USA and Hawaii.  Alaska is the only state that remains. 🙂

I stopped a few times during the drive but did not take any pictures.  I arrived at the Charleston airport about 5pm.  Julie’s flight wasn’t scheduled to land until 11:15pm.  Since there wasn’t a SuperCharger nearby, I didn’t want to drive around using up charge.  So, I stayed at the airport and used the time to enjoy some reading and playing Fire Emblem.

Julie and I drove over to a hotel Julie had booked, checked in, and went out for some late food.  We found a great place down the street and had a ‘gnarly’ conversation with a local woman that told us of her travels and some local sights.  We went back to the hotel and called it a night.
